at long last, the heads:
(as you film buffs know some of NORTH BY NORTHWEST was filmed here)
kiki was very happy to see the heads. i have to admit it was impressive to see in person. after seeing something so many times in pictures it is cool when you actually are face to face with it. i wouldn't say it was a "life changing" experience though, as advertised in the Mt. Rushmore billboards we kept seeing on the way to the heads.
ironically, though the heads themselves weren't life changing, i did have a life changing experience at the heads. before going to the heads we stopped at Dairy Queen and i got a Blizzard. since we've been on this trip, there have been a few times that we've gotten a milkshake, or malt, and every time after that i've experienced severe digestive aftereffects (that i won't go into, but i will say are unpleasant for me and kiki - and require the window to be rolled down for long intervals).
basically, i've concluded that i might be lactose intolerant. after my reaction to the other milkshakes, and this Bilzzard at the Dairy Queen (and spending lots of time in the Mt. Rushmore National Monument restroom) it just makes sense.
back to the heads though.. when we were there we saw this guy wearing this pink little-girl outfit. it was pretty impressive. we couldn't figure out what his deal was. he looked like a biker, only with a pink dress and pink stockings (and pink scrunchee). he made quite a stir at the gift shop, let me tell you.
the drive out of the Black Hills National Forest is beautiful. we saw tons of wildlife. turkeys, deer, and even wild buffalos
we also saw wild donkeys. we stopped to take a picture of these two donkeys and they came right up to our car
