after Yellowstone we headed south to Grand Teton National Park, a few miles south of Yellowstone. it's a much smaller park, but just as beautiful.. apparently Grand Teton is a relatively new park. because of that, they seem to have more luxury facilities at their campsites. it's kind of like a yuppie version of Yellowstone. lots of mountain bikers with Patagonia sportswear and bleached soccer moms with BMW SUV's. i felt like we were on Montana Avenue for a second there..
the park is stunning though..
despite feeling a tad under the weather, we took this epic hike up the mountains. i think it was 12 miles round trip.
saw some deer on the hike
near the top (we went waaaay up there)
some rock climber guy took a picture of us (directly in front of the stream we wanted to show, but hey..)
we made the mistake of not bringing enough water so when we got to the top. dying of thirst, we both succumbed to the temptation of drinking directly from the stream. i wasn't going to but after kiki did i couldn't resist. the water was too cold and tempting.. luckily we didn't get any of the fun diseases we remembered you can get from drinking untreated water. not that we know of anyway :)
after our 12 mile hike we decided to do some impromptu rock climbing
just kidding
while up in the high altitudes we were hoping to see some bighorn sheep. there were 2 animals that we wanted to see in Yellowstone and didn't: moose and bighorned sheep.
anyway, we didn't see any sheep but we did get to see quite a few moose, which made the whole Teton trip worth it in itself
mom and baby moose
baby moose hiding
more moose
they really are the coolest looking animals. they look like caricatures of old presidents or something. or some kind of kung fu masters (with the long goatees and whatnot). kiki and i both felt lucky to see them and it really rounded out our wildlife expedition well (bighorn sheep next time i guess)
