Mt. Hood (a very nice hood)

Thursday we headed out of Portland to make our way up to Mt. Hood

along the way we stopped and picked wild blackberries.

the trip through Northern Oregon towards the Mt. Hood National Forest was like some kind of idyllic fantasy world. i actually saw a little girl in her front yard playing with a kitten and baby ducklings. (i wanted to take a picture but then figured her some parents might not be cool with strangers taking pictures of their kids. plus, i think a lot of people in this area own guns)..

arriving at Mt. Hood we finally got a chance to put our backpacks to good use and and experience the outdoors..

..through the parking lot on the way to the lodge.

our room at lodge was pretty dope. kiki bought this lodge book earlier in the trip, so we've been trying to check some of them out (which is also a good excuse to stay at a nice place instead of camping..).. they truly are magnificent places.. this particular lodge, Timberline, was used for exterior shots in THE SHINING. we loved this place

one interesting (perhaps overlooked) fact about the Timberline Lodge is the famous ski girl from the Pee Chee folder design was designed from a photo taken at that very lodge

personally i was always more fond of tennis girl, but it's still impressive.

on our way out we thought we'd leave something to scare the cleaning lady

Fantastic Pee Chee trivia -- I hope you can track down the sources for the other pix on during your trip. My fave was always the runners, whose batons you could turn into knives (if you were cool enough).

How was it that you actually had a Pee Chee on hand?

I'm guessing that she stopped being scared after the 23rd time this happened to her . . .
