first stop: Napa Valley
we're staying at this semi-pretentious but pretty cool little hotel called the Hotel Duchamp (yes, after the French artist).. it's all minimal and Dwell-esque.
it's going to be hard to go from this to camping, but that was our plan... camp, but mix it up with the occasional nice hotel (and or ghetto hotel). so far we haven't done the camp part yet but we'll get to that.
we spent most of our day driving around through beautiful Napa Valley and stopping at vinyards to sample wine. the weather here is absolutely perfect. i'm not much of a wine guy myself, but tasting some of the wines we've had here is starting to make me see the light.

tomorrow we're off to Eureka, hippy central. i really wish i had planned ahead and checked out some of my favorite breweries up here (Lagunitas and Sierra Nevada), but alas, they will be out of the way at this point. it will have to wait till next time. i hear there are great micro-breweries in Portland though, so all hope is not lost.
